Young people can begin their day at Harborfest on Friday, July 25 as pirates, travel through time to save humans from dinosaurs, and sing along to songs with strong positive messages. Programming for children takes center stage during the day on the festival’s first full day, beginning with the annual Children’s Parade. This year, parade organizers ask participants to dress as pirates and to decorate their strollers or wagons as pirate ships. Full schedule is here.

The fun begins at 9:30 a.m. at West Park, where youngsters and their families can make pirate-themed decorations for the parade. The parade itself steps off at 10:30 from the park for the short walk to Breitbeck Park. Paraders will arrive just in time for the first of two new shows aimed at young people – Diggery’s Dino Adventure. The show takes kids back to the age of the dinosaurs, where the accidental hatching of a dinosaur egg begins a race to save the modern world from museum dinosaurs suddenly springing to life. That show is followed by Upstate New York singer/songwriter Jared Campbell, singing songs and telling stories that spread positive messages while captivating young people.
Diggery’s Dino Adventure and Jared Campbell perform in the Children’s Tent, which is supported by Wayne Drugs. Diggery’s Dino Adventure takes place at 11 a.m., 1:15 and 3:15 p.m. Friday. Jared Campbell performs at noon and 2 p.m. Friday courtesy of NBT Bank.
“No major festival provides as much entertainment for children as we do at Harborfest,” said Dan Harrington, Executive Director. “These new shows, as well as our full slate of programming aimed at young people makes this festival a must-stop for families. We look forward to seeing a park full of smiling young faces!”
