Oswego, NY (July 5, 2017)- The Harborfest Children’s Parade, sponsored by Oswego Health, has a new start time this year and will kick off at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 28th at Breitbeck Park near the pavilion.
Leading the parade will be the Oswego Health Sun Patrol that will travel along Lake Street to West Fifth Street before concluding at the Novelis Family Fun Park at Franklin Square.
At the park, Oswego Health will once again offer its popular obstacle course, created with gym equipment from the Oswego YMCA. The health system will expand its park offerings this year to include nine Healthy Highway stations, where children will be asked to complete health-related tasks. Children who visit all nine stations can earn a free pedometer. Health System staff will also be on hand to provide education on healthy foods and good health-related habits.
Joining Oswego Health at the park will be the Oswego YMCA, Oswego County Health Department, the Children’s Board and Oswego County Traffic Safety Board, which will all offer their own activities. Plans are developing to offer a private breast feeding area for moms.
Harborfest is one of the few admission-free music festivals in the country. It was founded with the mission of creating nationally recognized festivals and events that attract and engage a broad and diverse audience, celebrate and build community, and advance economic development in Oswego, New York. It would not be possible to continue the event without the massive continued support received from the City of Oswego, businesses, organizations, government entities, and individuals and family members.
