About the Aircraft:

The designer if the original Pitts Special aerobatic biplane, Curtis Pitts, could hardly have appreciated that his design would continue in production for more than five decades, and that is would be considered as the definitive aerobatic display flying aircraft.

The prototype of the S1 Pitts flew in September 1944. The original aircraft was of steel tube construction with fabric covering over wooden spars, while the two wings were braces with wire. Power was supplied by a 90-horse power four cylinder Lycoming or Continental engine. Later models were of all metal construction and with higher power engines.
