The powerful voice of Linda Rodney (a.k.a. Chocolate Thunder) will headline the third and final day of music on the Labatt Blue Jazz & Blues Stage in East Park at Oswego Harborfest 2010. Aretha Franklin. Tina Turner. Etta James. Linda Rodney! “Chocolate Thunder” is determined to reach the success levels of these blues, rock, jazz, and R&B divas, and with her amazing voice and dynamic stage presence, her destiny is written in the stars. Born and living in Greenville, South Carolina, Linda traveled the paths in her music career through the “College of Hard Knocks”. “That is why I sing the blues,” she affirms. Chocolate Thunder is a compelling performer with a reputation for grabbing listeners by the ears and not letting go until the performance is over.
Opening for “Chocolate Thunder” will be Central New York’s own Dave Hanlon’s Cookbook. Dave Hanlon’s Cookbook has been playing to audiences throughout the North East for the last 26 years. The band, featuring Hanlon on the drums include Ava Andrews on vocals, Ed Vivenzio on keyboards, Lee Tiffault on guitar, and Jimmie Spivey on bass. Cookbook’s music is a mixture of R&B, Blues & Jazz. Cookbook has been awarded 3 SAMMYS (Syracuse Area Music Awards), and Dave Hanlon is a recipient of the SAMMY Hall of Fame Award.
East Park is returning as a Harborfest Venue after a 1-year hiatus. A full day/night of jazz and blues is scheduled for Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25.
Friday’s schedule on the Labatt Blue Jazz & Blues Stage features Dam Dog (1:30 PM), The Mike Roberts Band (3:30 PM) and Los Blanco (5:30 PM) presented by C’s Farm Market. Friday night Oswego County Federal Credit Union presents The Kirsten Thien Band (7:30 PM) and Bill Morganfield (9:30 PM).
Saturday, the jazz and blues continues with Rhode Island Sound (12:30 PM) followed by Hard Logic (2 PM) and Salsamba Latin Jazz Group (4 PM). Saturday night on the Labatt Blue Jazz & Blues Stage, Yonrico Scott Band (6 PM) and WC Clark Blues Revue (8 & 10 PM) close out the Saturday music line up.
